The painting “Armour - Victorious My Ass After Caravaggio” is a modern adaptation of Caravaggio's work “The Victorious Cupid” (1602), which is exhibited in the Berlin Gemäldegalerie. While Caravaggio shows Cupid as a triumphant victor, surrounded by symbols of his conquests, this version transforms Cupid into a decrepit and disfigured angel. The formerly noble goblets have become canned beer and the angel has lost his limbs, rendering him incapable of winning further victories. Instead of a shining face, he now has the head of a worm, and a paintbrush is attached to an amputated arm. This drastic transformation portrays Armour as a loser and could act as a symbolic image for thebroken-hearted. The paintbrush can stand for the creative potential of the crisis.
